Interview with Dominic Miller

Dominic is a boy with a huge heart and a task to match. Dominic has, for the past 6 years, been donating clothes, books and pyjamas to homeless and disadvantaged children across America. He has been slowly generating greater donations and awareness to his non-profit, Dominic’s Christmas Wish. Dominic’s ultimate goal is to help 1000 kids this year, just in time for Christmas. His kind heart inspires young people and adults everywhere to think kinder and to make the world a happier place.

In awe of this young entrepreneur making a huge difference, we asked Dominic about his charity and the meaning behind it:

1) How would you best describe Dominic’s Christmas Wish?

I would describe Dominic’s Christmas Wish as a non-profit charity that helps young people facing homelessness.

“Do not accept the word ‘no’ or listen to people that say that you’re just a child.”

2) How old were you when you founded the charity?

I started working towards the cause of homelessness at just 4 years old

3)     What passions inspired Dominic's Christmas Wish?

After losing our home and moving to a new county, I witnessed people eating out of garbage cans and sleeping on benches. From that, I knew what being homeless felt like. My goal is to make homeless kids smile and to change the world one child at a time.

“My advice is to never give up. You will always eventually meet that one person that will help you.”

4) Who supports you with your charity?

Everyone is supporting me with my mission, my mum especially, as well as the public. It’s all leading me towards the goal of helping 1000 children this year through donation of toys, books and clothes.

5) What advice would you give to aspiring social entrepreneurs?

My advice is to never give up. You will always eventually meet that one person that will help you. Do not accept the word ‘no’ or listen to people that say that you’re just a child. It took me 6 years of hard work to finally get where I wanted to be.

6) To what extent would a platform like Kebloom have helped you achieve your dreams?

I think had we of known about Kebloom, it would have given me hope when I was struggling to get people to take me seriously and helped me prove that even a child can make a difference.

7) What has been the best part about running your charity?

The best part has been the feeling that my one act of kindness through donating a new book and pyjamas will inspire another child to want to help change the world for the better

8) What has been the most challenging part?

The most challenging part by far was getting the word out so that people take me seriously. My next big hurdle will be getting a 501c3 endorsement.

9) What skills do you feel you have developed since founding your charity?

They are not skills per say, but I have learned that a child is capable of making a difference in the world. I’ve also realised the importance of love and compassion. Love makes the world a better place for everyone.

I feel there is not enough love and joy in the world. If people would just be kind and help each other out, then the world would be a happier one. So, be kind as you never know what someone is going through or has been through.

…and anything else you’d like to add!
