Interview with Gabby Goodwin

Gabby Goodwin is a confident, self-assured and inspired young woman. She was the first to solve the problem of lost hair ties with an innovation, changing the face of hair styling for good! Her brand Confidence and invention of double-face double-snap hair barrettes known as GaBBY Bows, have gained success and recognised nationally. Gabby continues to foster the idea that anything is possible and her brand and product line continue to grow (beyond bows!), as does her love for creation.

Excited by the prospects of this young entrepreneur, Kebloom contacted Gabby about her current and future projects:

1) How would you best describe Confidence?

My company inspires confidence and creativity and shows girls what is possible.

“If you believe, you can achieve. NO is just an abbreviation for next opportunity.”

2) How old were you when you founded Confidence?

I was five years old when we began working on the idea for my invention GaBBY Bows and we officially founded the business when I was seven.

3) What passions inspired your business idea?

Since I was little, I wanted to do something that inspired people. When I realized the problem of girls losing hair barrettes, the two fit together perfectly.

4) What problem were you solving in the creation of GaBBY Bows?

We solved the problem of disappearing hair barrettes by inventing and patenting the first double-face double-snap barrette. I also created a line of hair products for girls that make the styling process easier for moms and their daughters.

“Keep going no matter what.”

5) Who supported you in creating/building your business?

My immediate family was there since the beginning. Friends and extended family soon became more and more supportive, making everything easier. Everyone helps me a lot and I am so grateful for that.

6) What advice would you give to aspiring young entrepreneurs?

Keep going no matter what. If you believe, you can achieve. NO is just an abbreviation for next opportunity.

7) To what extent would a platform like Kebloom have helped you achieve your dreams?

A platform like Kebloom would have provided inspiration, motivation and a vision of what’s possible.

8) What has been the best part about starting up a business?

Travelling, meeting and inspiring people have been the best bits about entrepreneurship and running my own business.

9) What skills did you bring to your brand and feel you have developed?

I brought determination to my business. I also began my business with a low sense of confidence but over the past five years my self-esteem has definitely improved.

...and anything else you'd like to share!

I’ve always wanted there to be more girl CEOs. To kick-start this, we started the Mommy and Me Entrepreneurship Academy in November. So far we have helped 80 girls and their moms in 23 states start their own businesses under my brand. GaBBY Bows is also launching in 74 Target stores in mid-October! Keep an eye out!
