Interview with Sophia Crawford

Sophia is a young, self-appointed ‘treat-maker.’ Since the age of 3 she has been passionately baking and making treats with her mom in the kitchen. This passion recently became a business, with Sophia selling her various carnival-inspired delicacies to many a sweet-toothed customer. As Sophia expands her range of skills, her dedication grows, and she hopes to one day be a pastry chef…and an architect!

Excited by the sweet nature of this young entrepreneur, Kebloom asked Sophia about her business:

1) How would you best describe Little Miss Sophia Sweets?

Little Miss Sophia Sweets was created with the purpose of making sweet, carnival-like treats. I make candy and caramel apples, cotton candy and candy popcorn, among other things.

“ I think I have become more confident and enhanced my ability to invest money…”

2) Where is your business based?

I'm based in DC, but my business is exclusively online at www.littlemisssophia.com.

3)    How old were you when you founded Little Miss Sophia Sweets?

I was 9 when I first started my business in June 2019. Now I am 10 years old.

“If you’re confident in yourself, you will accomplish your dreams.”

4) What passions inspired Little Miss Sophia Sweets?

I have been baking from the age of 3 with my mom. Both baking and watching lots of cooking shows with kids inspired me to want to start my own business.

5) Who supports you with your business?

My mom, my grandparents and I have a whole community of supporters in DC, where I live, and also online.

6) What advice would you give to social entrepreneurs/inventors?

The advice I would give entrepreneurs is: "If you're confident in yourself, you will accomplish your dreams."

7) To what extent would a platform like Kebloom have helped your achieve your dreams?

I didn't know about Kebloom initially but after looking through your website, I would say that I could learn from the experiences of other young people in business and media.

8) What has been the best part about running your business?

The best part of running my business has been the making of all the treats.

9) What has been the most challenging part?

The hardest part has been having to rapidly run ads in order to draw attention from my target consumers.

10) What skills do you feel you have developed since becoming a business owner?

I think I have become more confident and enhanced my ability to invest money for important things, like supplies.

…and anything else you’d like to add!
